Atzelbergturm

The 27-metre-high Atzelberg tower is the landmark of the Eppenhain district in the German town of Kelkheim.

The tower is the successor to two wooden tower buildings that were destroyed by fire in 2008 and in 2017. The new Atzelbergturm is made entirely of steel and stands on a 507-metre-high mountain.

A local architect designed the tower. With its 156 steps and its weight of over 30 tonnes, this is a very special structure. At the top of the spiral lookout tower is a five-metre-wide platform that overlooks a magnificent panorama that includes the districts of Kelkheim and Eppstein, as well as some prominent Taunus peaks and Königstein Castle.

Curved steel construction

The tower is composed entirely of steel. All curved tubes and round steel for this construction were bent by Kersten. They were also cut to size with a 3D contour for an optimal tube-to-tube connection.

Metallbaupreis 2024

In October 2024, Huhle Stahl- und Metallbau was awarded the German Metallbaupreis 2024 in the steel structures category for this project.
