55-metre-long monopile leaves factory in Wanssum
On Saturday 25 January, an impressive logistics operation took place where a monopile construction 55 metres long, 4.4 metres in diameter and weighing 182.6 tonnes was transported from our factory in Wanssum to the port where it was lifted onto a barge.
The movement of this huge structure began as early as Friday afternoon when it was loaded onto heavy transport from Kersten's factory and driven out. On Saturday morning, the transport departed from Parakkerweg towards Stayerhofweg where the pipe was lifted onto a barge using two cranes.
Parts of the through road were temporarily closed so that the transport could manoeuvre across the roundabout and through the bends. Surrounding businesses had cooperated so that the transport could reach the quay smoothly.
Team performance
This monopile is the largest and heaviest construction Kersten has ever produced. ‘We are extremely proud of this team achievement. Our team worked for months on this construction,’ said Mike Minten, CEO of Kersten. ‘This project is a perfect example of our technical expertise, where different techniques come together. In addition, we are contributing to a sustainable energy transition with this.’
Vibrojet
Kersten produced this monopile on behalf of GBM Works, an innovative company that has developed an installation technology for offshore wind turbines. The monopile contains a Vibrojet ring, also produced by Kersten. The Vibrojet's patented technology combines water injection with vibration, allowing wind turbines to be installed quietly, efficiently and scalably in the seabed. This significantly reduces the impact on sea life.
